Invention News: CALLING ALL MOTHERS OF INVENTION:
Anonymous writes " American moms are taking the world by storm—nearly half of all privately-held businesses (10.6 million) in the United States are owned by women, and more than a third of these women have children under 18 at home . Because there are millions more moms worth nurturing, Whirlpool brand is announcing its second annual Mothers of Invention Grant, a search for moms with brilliant ideas.
The 2006 Whirlpool Brand Mother of Invention Grant helps moms realize their potential by providing necessary business resources including seed money and expert advice. One grand-prize winner will receive a package featuring a $20,000 grant, a new home office and a two-day business boot camp to leverage Whirlpool expertise, including product development and marketing. An additional $24,000 in grants will be distributed to four runners-up.
“Being awarded the Mother of Invention Grant opened many doors to resources I would not have had otherwise,” said 2005 grand prize winner, Theresa Riep, who created a product to improve child safety measures. “I appreciate the continued help and support. Although raising a family while starting a business is a challenge, the grant, advice and camaraderie have definitely alleviated some of the growing pains.”
The call for entries opens on Mother’s Day, May 14 and ends July 30, 2006. Submissions will be judged based on weighted scores of the following: creating a solution to an unmet need; uniqueness in the current marketplace; offering a viable business solution; and the story behind the creation. Whirlpool brand based the grant’s judging criteria on its own product/innovation guidelines.
“As a brand, we rely upon the insights of today’s busy moms for ideas on how to help ease their very active lives,” said Audrey Reed-Granger, director of consumer insight for the Whirlpool brand. “The Mother of Invention Grant was created to acknowledge the inventive ways American mothers create solutions to their own challenges every day. We recognize moms to be the most coveted consumers on the planet, and as such shouldn’t they have an opportunity to bring a product or service to market?”

Note: Thanks so much for this submission! Here you had given us the scoop on the 12th of May, and it's not posted until the 24th of June. I apologize a million times over for not getting this posted in a timely manner. I've been away from the site for quite a while now with work unfortunately, but I plan to be here much more often as time goes on. Very glad to at least have it posted before the deadline, if only by a month. If you have any more invention related scoops like this, please, submit them! Thanks so very much, and good luck with the contest ladies.

Press Releases: Da Vinci Code Messages On Foods
Anonymous writes "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Da Vinci Code Messages On Foods
Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452. He was an Italian artist, scholar and inventor of a variety of machines with many messages. It is rumored that the world would be ready to get his coded messages only when another great mind appears and invents a unique tool (code word: "Pizzals"). It must be handheld for easy and quick usage to communicate on served foods that can be available and utilized by the masses - rich or poor. It has to be a unique kitchen tool that can beautifully emboss or imprint messages, logos, and insignias at will, on more than 40 foods and desired by at least 57 countries, including The Vatican. The prophecies are now unfolding 554 years later; becoming reality.
Nesconset, NY May 3, 2006 -- The fictional prophecies of the Da Vinci Code Messages will be revealed when the world discovers the existence of “edible billboards” and “when foods can talk.” The secrets will be revealed and appear in all languages (including Braille), embossed or impressed onto a plethora of foods when served or presented by those bearing the messages. Consuming and digesting the written word, will leave not a crumb of its secrets...only "Tasty Smiles".
“That day is only months away,” says Rich Errera, who miraculously has single handed, just invented the only food embossing and impressing tools in the world. Witness a pivotal, historic prophecy crystallizing. Wisely, he has patent pending protection in 128 countries. “Manufacturing and distribution is anticipated to begin around the Fall time,” says Errera.

Press Releases: CAL / Computer Automated Layout
Anonymous writes "CAL / Computer Automated Layout
©2004, Thomas J. Scrutchfield
Registered 2005, All Rights Reserved.
tscrutchfield@charter.net
http://www.computer-automated-layout.com
CAL / Computer Automated Layout is intended as an enhancement for existing CAD programs by providing such programs the additional ability to interpret and print the wall framing layout for any given structure, wood or steel, to include the exact placement, dimensions, and measurements of all framing components for each wall, in accordance with the blueprints, onto a rolled tape (much like cash register tape) for instant and accurate transfer to the actual wall plates by the builder. Each wall is individually numbered on the blueprints, corresponding length of CAL tape, and itemized parts list in a manner which makes it fairly easy to ascertain wall locations with, or without, the blueprints in hand.
Existing CAD programs can mathematically produce a complete list of building materials, as well as an itemized parts list of individual measures for each and every framing component as specified by the blueprints, yet the modern day builder is still crawling around on wet subfloors with ragged blueprints, deciphering, measureing, and scribbling the framing layout onto the wall plates in much the same way all carpenters have done for, and since, all of time.
CAL simply takes CAD to the next level by teaching it to display and print the framing layout for each wall, with all measures and details matching the blueprints, onto a cheap roll of tape for substantial increases in framing crew production and quality, with wall framing made easy for the do-it-yourself home builder. Cal can be incorporated into both residential and commercial building processes, and can also be used to display floor and ceiling joists, rafters and trusses, as well as the routing and placement of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, telecom, and security system components.
The CAL tape should be approximately 2 1/4" wide, allowing for at least 1" coverage of both upper and lower wall plates when placed together on edge, with about 1/4" center spacing for seperation of plates with a utility knife when ready to frame. The tape itself can be as common and inexpensive as cash register tape and attached to the wall plates with staples, tacks, nails, or an applied adhessive, with more durable, weather resistant, and self-adhessive materials as an option. Color codeing for quick identification and differation of components, doorways, and windows is also an option.
"
Note: Thanks for the submission! I've worked contruction framing before, and it sounds like a great solution you have developed here.

Patents: Available for License - TapeLess DryWall System
TAPE/LESS DRYWALL SYSTEM
I have an idea that would be great for drywall manufacturers that are not happy being in 4th, 3rd, or 2nd place in the market. A simple idea, with the potential to make a huge impact on a complacent industry. It would seem to me that a product that reduces time, materials, skilled labor and health risks would be a superior product in today’s economy.
The *TAPE/LESS Drywall System would be ideal for large and small contractors as well as the do it yourself people who would normally hang drywall (Sheetrock, plasterboard, gypsum board) themselves and more often than not, hire finishers to tape and mud adding time and money to the project. In today’s economy any material or technique that decreases labor costs by reducing the time it takes to finish any particular part in construction would be welcomed by contractors and do-it yourselfers alike.
The TAPE/LESS System will take drywall into the 21st Century and be truly a unique and novel product. My system cuts drywall finishing time, labor & materials costs, a substantial savings to the building industry. What makes this product unique from the thousands of other inventions pertaining to drywall tape and taping machines out there that this is the only system that is incorporated into the drywall itself during the manufacturing process? A tab that runs the length of the wallboard that could be either mudded conventionally, glued, or includes a self-adhesive strip to create a smooth transition with only a small gap to fill. Perfect inside corners too. Less sanding could even reduce the risk of scoliosis or lung cancer due to inhaling silica, mica, talc, ect. found in joint compounds. I would think that a product like this could either gain or maintain a competitive edge in such a market where demand is increasing yearly.
In my opinion, this is the biggest innovation to the industry since drywall replaced lattice and plaster construction.

*Patent pending
